Spring 2001 E-newsletter Our Concern for Your Health and Well-being Revisiting the Connection between Periodontal Health and Personal Health: In previous newsletters, Dodie Vecchione, RDH has written about the links between gum disease and heart disease, diabetes and stroke (read that article). Our responsibility as your dentists, is to provide you with the ultimate health. It is important that you understand that people with gum disease tend to be less healthy. It makes sense. The more your body's immune system has to combat, the fewer reserves it will have to fight other problems. It is also important that you recognize that people who smoke have a much higher incidence of periodontal (gum) disease. For that reason, Dr. Phillips has initiated a smoke cessation counseling program at the office. Call her anytime to discuss your needs. The link to the American
Association of Periodontists has many explanatory articles about the
health consequences of not treating gum disease.
