Repairing Veneers

"The treatment depicted here is a case that came to
Dr. Markus for rescue. This is not his treatment!"
While the idea of a cosmetic smile design without the need for drills or needles would sound like a great idea to most patients, the truth is, as you probably are aware "if it sounds too good to be true, it's probably not rue."
The truth is, that there are very few applications in which this prep-less,
drill-less process would work. Here is where it can work.
Most
educated dentists understand this. Many cosmetically untrained dentists are
led to believe, by certain labs and manufacturers that they can be a
cosmetic dentist, overnight.
The dentist who performed this case had only that training, and was
clueless as to the amount of reduction necessary to handle a case like this.
Likewise, his understanding of occlusion (the way teeth come together) was
insufficient to be able to understand that this was not a case where the
lower teeth could be treated successfully. Once this patient moved on, to a
cosmetic dentist with more extensive training, her bite had to be modified
with the veneers on, to get back to where all the teeth could close
together. Not what she had bargained for in a cosmetic rehabilitation is it?
So think about it, the jaw hinges closed, much like a door would hinge. If
you make part of the door wider than everywhere else (analogous to adding
porcelain to the tooth without drilling away the thickness of porcelain
necessary for strength), what is going to happen? The door will hit on only
that one spot and the rest of the door won't close, or, the piece you added
to the door will break away.
