Repairing Veneers

Notice how poorly these veneers which were performed by a general dentist
who did not realize that more reduction was look and fit compared with our
traditional method of utilizing Empress crowns.  Can you see how wide and
thick they look?  That's because without preparing them, the fit on the
sides of the teeth can't be tucked into the space between the teeth.  See
how unnatural they look?  That's because they're so thin, you can't
accomplish much in terms of hiding the underlying color of the teeth unless
you put a whole lot of opaque on them, or make them really thick, like the
next case.  Do you notice how the left (right side of your screen) eye tooth
(canine- third tooth from the middle) lies on the lower lip?  Not with the
Empress veneers, because you can change shape and position when you prepare
the teeth properly.

There are some who might feel that they don't want their teeth drilled down.

Porcelain.  When you come into my office, I'll be happy to show you what
these teeth looked like before, and explain to you why I have rarely
considered non-prep veneers.  There are very few cases that fit the
necessary parameters; however, many quickly-trained dentists feel that this
is a substitute for a strong knowledge of how to change people's smiles.
