Cost Reduction by HMO's
Mananged care organizations save themselves a great deal of money by
keeping their pool of dentists and dental specialists to a minimum. The
key to success for mangled care dentists is to increase their volume of
patients. This means that procedures must be completed quickly, which
inevitably must lead to a dilution of quality.
In the past, it was the patient who evaluated a dentist's performance
and rewarded him for excellent treatment by returning to the practice.
In the mangled care setting, a dentist is judged by his willingness to
accept deeply discounted fees, and by the volume of patients he can treat.
