Insurance Needs
When this Web site was first designed by Dr. Markus in 1997, a significant portion of it was dedicated to educating the public about the pitfalls of managed care. Since that time, the managed care companies have managed to bury themselves. Therefore, to keep this site concise, none of that information is contained herein, however, you can link to all the old information, which includes newspaper articles, websites, book excerpts, essays and information on dealing with employers and HMO denials. You can get there by clicking here. If you would like more information on any of these articles or topics, please contact Dr. Markus. Dr. Markus is a New Jersey Dentist who operates The Centre For Dentistry with his team. The Centre For Dentistry is located in Haddon Heights, New Jersey 10 minutes from Philadelphia.

Our office will be more than happy to complete your insurance forms
for you. Please understand that your relationship with your insurance
company was
established by your employer. We have absolutely nothing to do with the
level of your benefits, they are available in all price ranges, and this is the
amount your employer was willing to buy for you. We look at dental insurance
like a Christmas gift from a rich uncle. Every year, he gives you $1000
or $2000 to spend. Whatever you don't use, you have to give back to him
next year, and he'll write you a new check. Dental insurance benefits are
designed to take care of people with healthy teeth, and help you out if you need
more advanced treatment like crowns or periodontal (gum) treatments. The
best plans we have seen are Direct Reimbursement plans.
Twenty years ago, $1000 bought a lot of dentistry. Today, that
same $1000 in dentistry probably would cost close to $4000. How
is it that people don't have $4000 annual maximums for dental treatment? Simple,
the insurance company, whose premium is probably more than four times
higher than it was twenty years ago doesn't sell those policies.
I have often said that if medical insurance were like dental insurance,
and you blew out your knee, you'd be on crutches for 5 years while the
doctor attempted to work within the limits of your insurance.
We shoot from the hip. We will tell you what it will take to make
your mouth as healthy as ours: What it will take to keep it that
way (4-6 preventive cleanings a year for some people); and what your
cost will be, after the insurance has paid us. We will then automatically
debit your credit card or dental charge card (see financing).
