An unusual path to managed-care executive office
Ex-cop accused of aiding mob
Stephano Mazzola was one of 12 people charged with racketeering
, gambling and loan-sharking
By P.L. Wyckoff from the Newark Star-Ledger - 8-22-96
"Stephano Mazzola didn't follow a atypical career path on his way
to the executive suite of a thriving Bergen County managed-care
broker. But the, most health-care entrepreneurs aren't ex-police officers
who authorities said later became organized crime enforcers. Mazzola was arrested Monday and charged with using Tri-Con Associates
of Hasbrouck Heights to help the Genovese crime family get a foothold
in a lucrative new business: creating networks of
doctors and hospitals to provide health services to employers and
unions. Mazzola was one of 12 people charged with racketeering, gambling
and loan-sharking following a 2 1/2 year investigation by the state
Division of Criminal Justice. . . . . . . "
