Co-enzyme Q-10 -
You may have seen it on the shelves of the vitamin supplement
aisle. Co-enzyme Q-10 or ubiquinone is responsible for
the transfer of energy between every cell in the human
body. It is found in the highest concentration in the cells
of the heart muscle. Our bodies synthesize CoQ10 from vitamins
and amino acids, peaking in young adulthood. Levels decline
with age, and cholesterol-lowering drugs seem to have a
diminishing effect as well. Deficiencies of CoQ10 have
been found in people with cardiovascular disease, high
blood pressure, diabetes, ulcers, AIDS, muscular dystrophy,
obesity and even periodontal disease.
Periodontists are reporting spectacular effects on gum health. They report
a significant difference between patients that take it and those who
don't. The few patients that have taken it on our recommendation have
dramatically improved their gingival health and have reduced bleeding
as well. Recommended dosage is 100 mg daily for general health enhancement
and preventive cardiac care. Many people report renewed energy and vigor.
Try it for three months and see what it can do for you. There appears
to be no problem with taking CoQ10 for prolonged periods of time. Caution
is urged for patients taking anti-coagulants such as Coumadin or Warfarin.
As always, it is recommended that you consult with your physician before
using this or any supplement. Just don't be surprised if they've never
heard of it. Since it is a naturally occurring substance, there aren't
any drug representatives peddling it around. The co-enzyme is frequently
used in Japan and Europe, though, to treat angina and congestive heart
failure. Additional information can be found on the internet using a
search engine such as Google or Yahoo.
